Work Package 7: Mooring development

Objectives Prove the design of a mooring incorporating a submersible winch capable of producing surface ocean CO2 and biogeochemistry data.
Description of work An innovative sub-surface mooring based on the technology and expertise developed during the FPV ANIMATE program but with the addition of an automated submersible winch system will be designed and tested. The winch system will be mounted at 300m and will periodically profile the uppermost water column with an attached sensor package. The design will attempt thereby to overcome the difficulty of obtaining near-surface data with mooring designs, which are subject to knock-down.
